I bought some magnesium granules as i thought they would burn bright like magnesium ribbon...what?

should burn bright in the air. We used to shave lumps off unexploded incendiary bombs we dug up in fields during WWII and put them in an open fire, they really did burn bright and I believe that was magnesium. foolish to do so maybe but as kids we thought it was great fun.
