Severe pain, how long will it take?

Yesterday (21st April 2010) I fell over and was rushed to hospital with a possible break to my ankle. I was seen as an emergency and rushed through for x-rays. Both of my doctors confirmed that I had a Spinal Fracture of my Fibula and had to manually realign my leg to avoid surgery. I didn't quite realize the severity of my fracture as the minute part of pressure could cause it to move and I would be in big trouble. I have another consultation with the doctors on friday and wondered which would be the best course of treatment to undergo as I have read about Surgery being the quickest healer and without surgery you can have numerous problems. Also how long will it take for me to be walking around without crutches and able to bear pressure on my leg? Thank you for your help :)
